 TITLE: Title

A Motion by the Trotwood City Council to schedule a Public Hearing and to authorize the Law Director to prepare legislation amending Section 505.17 “Barnyard Animals” of the City of Trotwood Code of Ordinances to allow for barnyard animals within the Agricultural (A) Zoning District.

Body

PURPOSE:  Schedule Public Hearing and draft legislation

DEPARTMENT: Planning and Development Department

CONTACT INFORMATION: Tyler Hauck, Director

INFORMATION: Currently, there is significant confusion, and sometimes frustration, when we explain that residents are not permitted to have barnyard animals, even in agriculturally zoned areas. This amendment will allow barnyard animals in the City of Trotwood within the agricultural (A) zoning district. This regulation was put in place in 1987 prior to the merger with Madison Township and to the best of staff’s knowledge was never updated as part of the merger. As the code reads currently, no one in the City of Trotwood is permitted to have barnyard animals of any kind. This includes farmers in the most rural and remote parts of the city. This change updates the regulation to keep the original intent, preventing barnyard animals within urban and suburban areas, while allowing anyone within the agricultural zoning district to have barnyard animals, as is common in rural areas and farmland.
