A RESOLUTION BY THE TROTWOOD CITY COUNCIL DETERMINING THE NECESSITY OF LEVYING A RENEWAL TAX IN EXCESS OF THE TEN-MILL LIMITATION FOR THE PURPOSE OF PAYING THE CURRENT EXPENSES OF THE CITY OF TROTWOOD, AS STATED IN SUBSECTION 5705.19(A), AS AMENDED, OF THE OHIO REVISED CODE, WHICH LEVY SHALL BE 5.75 MILLS AND IS A RENEWAL OF AN EXISTING LEVY OF 5.75 MILLS, TO RUN FOR FIVE (5) YEARS, PURSUANT TO SECTION 5705.19 OF THE OHIO REVISED CODE, AND REQUESTING THE COUNTY AUDITOR TO CERTIFY MATTERS IN CONNECTION THEREWITH.

PURPOSE: Passing a Resolution of Necessity is the first step in the statutory procedural requirements to place a renewal tax levy on the May 5, 2026, ballot.

INFORMATION: The first step in the statutory procedural requirements for having a tax levy placed on a ballot is to pass a Resolution of Necessity and request the County Auditor to certify to the taxing authority the total current tax valuation of the subdivision, and the number of mills required to generate a specified amount of revenue, or the dollar amount of revenue that would be generated by a specific number of mills.
FISCAL & STAFF IMPACT: The renewal of this levy is critical to the continued operation of the City’s General Fund.
