 TITLE: Title

A Motion by the Trotwood City Council to schedule a Public Hearing and to authorize the Law Director to prepare legislation to repeal and replace Section 313.11, entitled “Civil Penalties for Automated Red Light System Violations,” of the City of Trotwood Codes of Ordinances.

Body

PURPOSE:  Schedule Public Hearing and authorize Law Director to prepare legislation

DEPARTMENT: Police Department

CONTACT INFORMATION: Police Chief Erik Wilson

INFORMATION: In July 2019, a change in state law gave exclusive jurisdiction to municipal courts to decide all civil actions concerning traffic violations, including traffic-camera citations. Therefore, the City of Trotwood must consider the financial impact of said law change and further, adjust the corresponding fines and fees to offset any additional expense set by the municipal court for their services.

FISCAL & STAFF IMPACT: An adjustment in the fees and fines associated with automated red light system violations must be considered in order to avoid a financial shortfall.
