A Motion by the Trotwood City Council to schedule a Public Hearing and authorize the Law Director to prepare legislation creating new Section 521.12 “Prohibition on Gun-Shaped Novelty Lighters” in Chapter 521 “Health, Safety, and Sanitation” of the City of Trotwood Code of Ordinances, prohibiting the retail sale and display of gun-shaped novelty lighters for sale within the City of Trotwood, Ohio.

INFORMATION: Lighters designed in the likeness of a firearm (“gun-shaped novelty lighter”) pose a risk to children and the general public because they are often visually indistinguishable from real firearms and can cause accidental injury, intimidation, or law-enforcement misidentification. Removing gun-shaped lighters from retail sale and display is a public-safety measure that reduces unnecessary and life-threatening confusion.
