A RESOLUTION BY THE TROTWOOD CITY COUNCIL TO PROCEED WITH PLACING AN ADDITIONAL TEMPORARY INCOME TAX OF ONE-HALF OF ONE PERCENT (0.5%) FOR A PERIOD OF FIVE (5) YEARS ON THE BALLOT FOR THE NOVEMBER 8, 2022 ELECTION AND TO CERTIFY THE SAME TO THE MONTGOMERY COUNTY BOARD OF ELECTIONS.

 

Body

PURPOSE:  This Resolution instructs the Clerk of Council to provide the Board of Elections of Montgomery County, Ohio, by 4:00 p.m. on August 10, 2022, with a certified copy of this Resolution, along with a certified copy of Ordinance No. OR21-22, in order for the question of the additional temporary income tax to be submitted to the City’s electors at the November 8, 2022 election.

INFORMATION: In July 2022, Council adopted Ordinance OR21-22 repealing and replacing certain sections of the Codified Ordinances with the intention of submitting to the City’s electors for approval or rejection, the question of whether this additional temporary income tax of one-half of one percent (0.5%) for a period of five (5) years shall be imposed in the City of Trotwood. This same income tax issue was on the May 2022 ballot and failed by nearly 90 votes.

 

FISCAL & STAFF IMPACT: This additional temporary income tax would generate approximately one million dollars in additional revenue for the purpose of resurfacing roadways.

 

RECOMMENDATION:  Recommend Approval
